Virtual Therapy Throughout PA

Hello! I'm Malika, LPC

I'm so glad you're here! Taking the first step to find a therapist can be daunting. I understand because I've been there - the fear of opening up to someone new, questioning if they will actually help or if you will end up disappointed, and worrying that maybe misery is your default.By sitting with those thoughts and searching anyways, you have taken the biggest step and you are one step closer to reclaiming power from your anxious mind. That deserves some celebration!
But I also know all of the profiles can start to sound the same - “person centered,” “nonjudgmental,” “a safe space.”
All of it is important, but what does any of that mean when it’s coming from a stranger who may appear completely put together?

Person-first approach

Every person is unique and so is their journey.

I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor, but I haven’t always been a therapist. I have struggled with my mental health throughout my life, including when I started my practice in 2022. I pushed myself because the same beliefs - the people pleasing part, the “not good enough” part, the caretaker part - were still in the driver's seat of my life, and it was exhausting. I had to drop the mask I had carefully crafted and figure out who I was behind the therapist role I had assigned myself. So in 2024 I took a break from the mental health field to explore who I was and to integrate and heal the parts of me that felt deeply ashamed of being myself and of taking up space. That path brought me back to childcare, a space I originally existed in for most of my career. While there, I was able to reconnect with play, with being seen, and with people who taught me how to let go of what’s outside of my control. In therapy with me you can trust that I’m human too, which means when the weeks come up when you don’t want to “do the work,” I get it because I’ve been there. You will be met by a human who has walked through the darkness of figuring out - who am I? - and has come out the other side, or is at least working towards it every day. You will be met with someone ready to hold space for you when life feels too heavy to hold on your own. Because we weren't designed to hold life - the emotions, expectations, fears, grief, etc. - on our own.We will explore who you are separate from what your parents, friends, teachers, or community wanted or expected of you. We will find who you really are underneath the carefully crafted persona you have created to survive.I warn clients to expect a lot of questions because I want to know what’s behind the automatic thoughts, feelings, beliefs and reactions you have created for others and also for yourself. Because what I've found is that we aren’t usually just hiding our true selves from others, but also from ourselves. That’s the person I’m trying to bring to the surface - the real you - to live and to finally be free.
